Sugar Loaf

After a nice lunch in Santa Teresa, we head for the entrance to the Sugar Loaf. We get our tickets early and head for the nearby beach to wait for sunset time. The view from up there is spectacular!

Soccer Finals at Copacabana

After a morning at the beach (well for some of us after a morning working!) we headed to Copacabana to see Italy vs Spain on a big screen on the beach. The final score was not very appreciated, especially by Oscar, but the walk back home was! Rio feels pretty safe these days, especially compared to 10 years ago.

Corcovado

The next day, we wanted to do something nice for the kids, to get them excited about the trip, so we headed for the Christ of Corcovado, which they know as a "Wonder of the World", in reference to the New & Wonders of the World (something they picked up from one of their books). Beautiful day, but Rio is always a bit hazy (as we'll find out the following days). The trip involves a fun ride in a cable car, and a quick lunch on top of the peak. On the way down, we stop at the Lagoa, Rio's famous lagoon for a bike ride around the park.

We are starting the Journey in Rio de Janeiro

The trip from New York was really easy. We arrived in Rio early morning with a short night but no jet lag. We jumped into a cab, and arrived pretty fast in sunny Ipanema. The apartment is not very big but nice and extremely well located, one block from Ipanema beach "Posto 9". The beaches in Rio are segmented into "postos" and the number 9 is a nice one. We'll try the beach real soon.
